DSID, Demonstration School International Devision is one of the Demonstration Schools in Khon Kean University. Currently, the school offers classes from first through seventh grades, and the number of grades is expected to increase in the future. It is a very new school that started last school year, and various new initiatives are being implemented.

During my three weeks at this school, I discovered some interesting school culture that is not found in Japanese schools.

I would like to introduce three of them!

  1. Morning Assembly Students line up in the hallway every morning at 8:30 to sing the Thai national anthem. After that, they chant the prayer together.

2. Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a very big event for children in Thai schools. When I went to school that day, I found that the students had left chocolates and candies on my desk.

They also brought heart stickers and put them on each other's faces and on their uniforms. They put stickers on me too, and it was a very happy day :)

3. Talent Shows

At DSID, there is a talent show, where students can present what they like to do, such as piano, singing, or dancing, in front of everyone in the cafeteria during lunchtime.

Some of the students practice voluntarily for weeks in advance for this stage!

I think this event is very cool. it must be a very happy experience for students to show what they love to do and to receive applause, which will boost their motivation and self-confidence.

I am sure it would be wonderful if Japanese schools incorporated it.
