Teaching Plan

I had the opportunity to teach Japanese to fifth graders. Here is my teaching plan!
Teaching Practice
Teaching Procedures and Time Management
*The first 20 minutes were conducted by another teacher.
Warm Up (3 minutes)
To set the lesson context and draw their attention to the target practice
Introduce the phrase “Moshi Moshi” as a word to start conversation on the phone in Japanese.
Conversation Practice (10 minutes)
To get used to the conversation in Japanese and gain some vocabulary related to the topic.
The teacher will explain the meaning and the way to pronounce the sentences of the script on the board. The teacher will ask the students to read the script aloud together.
Reviewing the Vocabulary (5 minutes)
To remind the students of important Japanese vocabulary
Practise by quizzing students to see if they can say the days of the week in Japanese, from Monday to Sunday.
Activity with Worksheets (12 minutes)
To enable them to apply the knowledge they have learnt and produce their own writing. To deepen their understanding through writing, not just reading.
Ask them to form pairs, imagine a situation where they are making a phone call and create a dialogue of the conversation. Ask them to practise the conversation with the sentences they have created.

Thankfully, the Year 5 students were very supportive and engaged with the class.

Observing other teachers teaching, I realised that it is important to always be confident and happy in front of students.
I found that making use of students' comments in class, dealing with unexpected situations and managing time in the classroom was more difficult than I had thought.
